Bakuriani above Borjomi
Bakuriani sits at about 1,700 m on the northern slope of the Trialeti range. It is a ski village in winter and a quiet mountain base in summer. From Borjomi it is about 30 km by road, a drive of 40 to 45 minutes. Many visitors combine the two: the town and the park in the valley, then a night or a day up in the mountains.
Skiing is the main reason to come. Bakuriani has three ski areas, Didveli, Kokhta and Mitarbi, and the lifts run in winter and again in summer. Snow depends on the year, so check conditions before you plan a ski trip.

Bakuriani in summer
The summer lifts opened on 6 July 2026. At Didveli the Nodo and Deka lifts run daily from 11:00 to 18:00, and the pass office is open until 17:30. Whether all areas stay open through the season is not fixed, so ask on the day. Bakuriani is also a hiking and cycling region. See hiking around Borjomi for how the village fits with the walks in the national park.
The air is cooler than in Borjomi, because the village lies much higher. Bring a warm layer even in July.

The road and the narrow-gauge railway
How to get up from Borjomi.
Most visitors drive or take a taxi or minibus up the road, which takes 40 to 45 minutes. A winter road can be icy, so ask about conditions. The narrow-gauge line from Borjomi to Bakuriani, known as the Kukushka, is not a transport option at the moment. It has been out of service for about 6 years. A full restoration with 4 trips a day is planned, and a restart is announced for the coming months. A planned date is not a timetable, so do not build your trip around a train ride. The regular train from Tbilisi to Borjomi is a different line; the getting there guide explains it. Guesthouses in Bakuriani are covered under where to stay.
