Borjomi weather in short
Borjomi lies in a river valley in the Lesser Caucasus. Bakuriani, the ski resort above it, sits at about 1,700 m. That height difference matters. Town weather is a poor guide for the mountain, so check both before a trip that includes the two.
There is no single best month for everything. The right season depends on what you came for: walks in the forest, a winter day on snowshoes, skiing, or a day trip to Vardzia and Rabati. The sections below go through the year by activity. If you plan to combine Borjomi with a tour from Tbilisi, have a look at our Borjomi day trips from Tbilisi before you fix the month.

The year by activity
What each season is good for, and what to check first.
| Activity | Season | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Flowers in the national park | May to June | Register at the visitor center first |
| Long hut-to-hut routes | Summer and autumn | Current trail and bridge status at the visitor center |
| Snowshoe walks | December to February | Snow cover varies; ask at the visitor center |
| Skiing in Bakuriani | Winter | Lift dates for the new season |
| Summer lifts in Bakuriani | Summer | Daily hours at the start of the season |
| Vardzia and Rabati | All year | Opening hours change by season |
For most visitors who want walks and sightseeing without snow, late spring and early autumn are the easiest choices. For winter, plan around Bakuriani and the snowshoe routes.

Spring and early summer
Flowers, forest paths and the first summer lifts.
National park flowers
Flowers bloom in the park from May to June. It is a good time for the shorter routes, such as the Likani Valley trail of 7 km. Register at the visitor center before you start, also for horse routes.
National park guide โSummer lifts in Bakuriani
In 2026 the operator started summer operation on 6 July. The Didveli lifts Nodo and Deka ran daily from 11:00 to 18:00, with pass sales until 17:30. Hours can change from year to year, so check before you go.
Bakuriani guide โLong routes
The longer park routes need more care. St. Andrew trail is a summer and autumn route. Ask at the visitor center whether a route and its bridges are passable on your dates.
Hiking guide โAutumn
Autumn suits walking in the forest and sightseeing in Akhaltsikhe, Vardzia and Tbilisi. Opening hours start to shorten. Rabati Castle changed to 09:00 to 18:00 from 1 October in 2026. Vardzia keeps 10:00 to 18:00 between 1 October and 15 November, then 10:00 to 17:00 until 1 March.
From October to April, sheepdogs can be near the herds on the trails. Stay on the marked paths. Days are shorter, so start early on any longer walk and plan to be back before dark.

Winter: snowshoes and the Bakuriani ski season
The national park offers snowshoe walking from December to February. The trails are the Snow Shoes trails: number 10 is a two-day round trip from Likani, number 11 a 6 km out-and-back from Atskuri. Registration applies in winter as well.
Bakuriani is the winter base. The three ski areas are Didveli, Kokhta and Mitarbi. In the 2025/26 season, ski hours were 10:00 to 17:00, night skiing ran from 17:00 to 21:30, and ticket sales closed 30 minutes before the end of operation. Lifts ran until 29 March 2026. Dates and prices for the 2026/27 season are set by the operator, so check them before you book.
Do not rely on the town's weather for snow in the mountains. The ski resort lies far higher, and snow depth there can differ a lot from the valley.

Weather and the road
Why the forecast matters for getting around.
Landslides and floods
Outside the main roads, the road surface can be poor, and landslides or floods can interrupt routes. Do not drive at night outside towns. See getting to Borjomi for routes and times.
Mountain routes
Road works and weather can close mountain roads for a day or more. For the Kazbegi and Svaneti parts of a Georgia round trip, allow extra days rather than a tight schedule. Our Georgia tours guide shows the routes.
