National Park Borjomi at a glance
The National Park Borjomi is a forest park in the Lesser Caucasus, founded in 1995. It is a large protected area with two visitor centres, one in Borjomi and one in Kharagauli. It is not the same place as the Central Park in town, which has the springs and the sulphur pools. For that, see the Borjomi Park guide.
The park is made for walking. There are 12 numbered trails, from a 5.5 km valley walk to a 4-day route across the ridges. Everyone registers at a visitor centre before they set out. That includes riders on horse routes. Take food and water with you.

Trail 4 (Untouched Forest) and trail 7 (National Park Information Trail) complete the list of 12. Ask at the visitor centre for their current routes. For most visitors with one day, the Likani Valley or Footprint trail is the practical choice. Do not turn the multi-day stages into a day trip.
Registration, huts and camping
What to do before you start, and what a night costs.
Register first
Register at a visitor centre before every walk. The Borjomi centre is at 23 Meskheti Street, the Kharagauli centre at 17 King Solomon Street. Opening hours are 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 16:00 at weekends. The centres are closed on 1 and 7 January and on Orthodox Easter. Visitors can call +995 599 747 919.
Huts
A bed costs GEL 20 per person and day, GEL 10 for pupils and students and GEL 25 at Nedzvi. At Likani, Kvabiskhevi, Sametskvareo, Dedabera, Urema, Kvibisi, Didmaghali, Sakhvlari and Makhvilo it is GEL 30. The huts are simple. Pack a sleeping bag and check availability at the centre before a multi-day route.
Camping and gear
Camping is about GEL 5 per person, a tent GEL 10 per day, a sleeping bag GEL 5 and a mat GEL 3. Rental gear is handed out at the visitor centre, not at the trail entrances. Confirm the current rates when you register.
Seasons and rules in the park
When to go and what to respect.
Seasons
Walks run through the year. Flowers are in bloom from May to June. St. Andrew trail is a summer and autumn route. Snowshoe walks run from December to February. Snow on the ridges changes from year to year, so ask about conditions on the higher routes.
Rules
Use the marked trails. Make fires only at the places set aside for them. Pets and firearms are not allowed. Between October and April sheepdogs can be near the herds, so keep your distance from them.
Wildlife
Panorama trail passes tracks of bear, wolf and deer. They show the animals live here. They do not mean you will see one, so do not expect a sighting.
River crossings
Ask at the centre whether the crossing between Sakhvlari and Marelisi is passable. Do not ford rivers.
Getting to the park
Borjomi is the usual base.
The Borjomi centre is in town, and trails such as Likani Valley and Footprint start at Likani, a district of Borjomi. Plan your start around the trail you choose. The Borjomi travel guide explains the train and bus from Tbilisi. For longer routes, hiking around Borjomi shows how the park fits with other walks, and where to stay covers the town.
National Park Borjomi: frequently asked questions
Do I have to register before a hike in the national park?
Yes. Register at the visitor centre in Borjomi or Kharagauli before you go, including for horse routes. The ranger station on the trail does not replace this.
How much does a hut cost?
In 2026 a bed costs GEL 20 per person and day in most huts, GEL 10 for pupils and students and GEL 25 at Nedzvi. Nine huts at the higher rate cost GEL 30. Check the current rate at the visitor centre.
Which trail is best for one day?
Likani Valley (7 km, easy) and Footprint (13 km, steep descent) are the one-day options near Borjomi. Meghruki Valley is 5.5 km but starts at Sakhvlari, which you reach on other trails.
Can I walk in winter?
Yes, on the snowshoe trails, which run from December to February. Ridge routes depend on snow, so ask the centre first.
Is the national park the same as the park in Borjomi town?
No. The Central Park in town has the springs and the sulphur pools and is a separate place from the national park.
Can I bring my dog?
No. Pets are not allowed in the park.
